The Philippine social media has been littered with pics in the past few days showing almost empty movie theater seats for the biopic
“BATO The Movie: The General Ronald Dela Rosa Story”.
The movie, which transformed Bato into a superhero, was earlier criticized for its untimely release. The biopic was supposed to prop up Dela Rosa’s senatorial bid but may instead cause a backlash as netizens aired their negative reactions even calling for a boycott of the movie.
Bato, who became Chief of the Philippine National Police and was instrumental to the implementation of the controversial “Oplan Tokhang”, is running as senator under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan ticket. He is one of the three senatorial candidates being endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte. The other two are former Special Assistant to the President, Bong Go, and former Metro Manila Development Authotity Chairman, Francis Tolentino.
The movie is being portrayed by actor Robin Padilla as Gen. Bato dela Rosa and actress Beauty Gonzales who plays the role of Nancy Dela Rosa, wife of Bato.
